Easiest Ivar cabinet hack for children's toys

Before children I said I would be strict on toys and I am bloody proud of how strict I am still managing to be 2.5 years on. I buy carefully, mainly I only buy at birthdays and Christmas and the odd item between. I use my local charity shops a lot, small businesses and a small toy shop in my local town for schleich animals. However, there are still a fair number of toys and I wanted one place to house them downstairs- especially his plethoras of trucks.

I considered buying second hand and upcycling but I didn't have the head space to search for what I wanted as finding that piece you know will look the tits post upcycling takes a lot of time and energy on Ebay, FB marketplace and going into town. I have found some magical cheap as chips pieces and made them fantastic but also very labour intensive- pre three under three I was all over it. Post three under three I try and push my time into things I know I need to more than others.

I had seen many a hack on Pinterest for the Ivar. In real life it's actually a real solid piece. The box is a nightmare to lift onto the trolley on your tod as it is so heavy. Once built you can place shelves wherever you fancy and it was easy to build.

The beauty of this is that there are two sizes and therefore prices. I went with the one with the larger depth. I have added baskets from my local flea market and Arlo takes out a basket at a time back to the lounge or keeps it in the conservatory. It then keeps them organised and I am able to tidy quick. The other option would be to add lots of storage boxes. I prefer this Ikea cabinet to any other Ikea toy storage idea purely because you can close those doors and everything is hidden away completely and then it goes back to looking stylish AF. Winning.

I upcycled it with hairpin leg company legs. I went to go for Pretty Pegs but the price put me off. Then I saw some similar to Pretty pegs on Ebay as furniture feet and considered these but stuck with their smallest hairpin legs. These screwed on with the screws the hairpin leg co provided.

To paint I shared this process in my stories so have some awful looking photos below. My tip would be frog tape, layers- lots of and building it up gradually. There weren't any measurements- just by eye and standing back and assessing it as I went with my husband as a second pair of eyes. Do check out Pinterest for other painting ideas and to be honest just in it's rawest form is fabulous enough too!
